TRAINING
ON FRAMO CARGO PUMP PUMPING PLANT AT SAMUNDRA INSTITUTE OF
MARITIME STUDIES (SIMS):
First time in the history of Indian seafarer's training, SIMS will
be offering hands-on training on the Framo cargo pump at
the SIMS premise, Govandi, Mumbai. As reported earlier, a
reduced size stainless steel cargo tank of a chemical tanker
has been designed by Fukuoka shipyard, Japan and is
being installed in the SIMS premises. The tank is at the last
stage of finishing at the institute and would be functional in
next couple of months where the cargo pump will be installed
in collaboration with the Frank Mohn Services AS, Norway, the
manufacturer of the world famous pump.
Representatives
of Frank Mohn AS - Mr. Martinus Fjelstad, Training Manager
and Mr. Jostein Torp, Senior Training Supervisor visited the
training institute and expressed full satisfaction at the
facilities provided to conduct the training courses there. In
fact, the visitors were very impressed to find the extent of
real life situations created for a complete hands on training
for the company’s sailing staff.
At
a meeting held on 12th March 2003, at the SIMS
premise, Mumbai, between the representatives of Framo and
SIMS, both the parties discussed various nitty- gritty of the
collaboration.
For
the proposed five day training course, the tailor made
course materials will be prepared by Framo along with
video/DVD, posters and other teaching materials. Framo will
also provide training for the SIMS instructors both in Norway
and Singapore.
It
may be mentioned here that apart from only other three places in the
world i.e. Norway, Singapore and Houston where Frank Mohn AS has
provided their own training programme, SIMS will be the only
place after Manila where such facilities will be provided
through an outside agency. In this respect, we are indeed very
happy to receive full assistance and co-operation from Frank
Mohn AS in our effort to provide such elaborate training in
all aspects of pump operation and maintenance for our in-house staff. In fact, such training of the
real life situation is perhaps the first of its kind in the
world.
We
shall keep our readers updated on this special training
programme of SIMS as it unfolds in next couple of months.
