PARTY TIME For BP Shipping Officers

It was an evening of sheer fun, traditional Indian gourmet food, glitter and cultural extravaganza for over 100 odd officers and their families, who participated and enjoyed an annual get-to-gather for our BPMS officers held at the Grand Maratha Sheraton on 22nd March 2007.

While the officers and the spouses had come over from all over the country, a team of BP Shipping officials headed by the Chief Executive and Group Vice President Mr. David Baldry, Mr. David Williamson, Director, Fleet Operations and Mr. Andrew Cassels, Manager, Fleet Commercial Services had flown in especially to join in the fun along with a number of BP technical superintendents from Sunbury and Singapore.

Welcoming guests, Managing Director, Mr. B.S.Teeka mentioned about the strong relationship and partnership between ESM and BP Shipping and said that in the capable hands of Mr. Baldry the partnership sure continues to be stronger for years to come.

The party had an auspicious beginning with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Mr. Baldry followed his address which marked his satisfaction at the growth of BP shipping as well as its partnership with ESM.
While calling upon all for upholding safety standards, Mr. Baldry shared the unfortunate incident of the loss of life on board British Mallard. A one-minute silence was observed in memory of EO Raj Kumar Singh who passed away in January this year.

The party went on full swing thereafter with the mood set by the “jugal bandi” – the combination of two Indian classical dance forms- Kathak and Odissi by two well-known exponents of the art forms from Delhi. For about 45 minutes, Mrs. Kavita Divedi in Odissi and Mrs. Malti in Kathak along with their four disciples from Israel, Korea and Japan mesmerized the audience with their intricate foot works and body movements. The atmosphere turned ethereal and enchanting – thanks to the magic of the performers.

The food was indeed the talk of the town/party with a sumptuous buffet spread to satisfy taste buds of any variety and nationality and to represent the spirit of Indian cuisine from all corners of the country. However, the grand finale was “Infra Red”- the charismatic and energetic band who captivated the entire audience and swept them to the dance floor till long past midnight. As the charming ladies in their beautiful sarees and fineries and officers in their smart suits sweated it out in the disco numbers let me call adieu till we meet again in the same party next year.

Last but not least - one proud moment for all of us was the presentation of the Chief Executive award for Individual HSSE performance to our old hand AB Shahrukh. Hearty Congratulation to Shahrukh and we do hope we will have many more such proud moments to share with our officers and crew in the BP ships in future.
