According to some recent information, a vessel calling Newcastle was pointed out a deficiency of * SOLAS V/17.3 by AMSA ( Australian Maritime Safety Authority ). Though it isn't clear as for the details of the deficiency, a port state control officer found out a crew who was talking by the cellular phone in the bridge, as for SOLAS Chapter-V 17.3 , the correspondence of the ship is prescribed as ;
//// SOLAS Chapter-V 17.3 //// Portable electrical and electronic equipment shall not be operated on the bridge if it may affect the proper function of navigational systems and equipment.

|
In view of this case, masters are requested not to operate "Portable electrical and electronic equipment (including cellular phone) " in the bridge if it may affect the proper function of "navigational systems &
equipment" Although we have no authority to pass a judgment either way, we indeed welcome any comment from our sailing staff basis their personal experience on this issue.
