Lets
C.A.L.M. ourselves in crisis
|
Inside this issue:
|
We all work against pressures, deadlines and crisis - when work seems
overwhelming and one just wonders - "why me". We all react to problems in different ways and envy the person who is able to handle the pressures calmly and without getting too emotional or physically screaming to figure a way out of the crisis.
Following nuggets of wisdom seemed to have helped some of the world's top leaders. Lets try ourselves and see the results?
An acronym to help us keep a cool head in the times of Crisis:
Centre yourself: Don't go running from monkey island to fo'c'sle to engine room to try to do something. Take a moment to focus.
Accept reality: Whatever it is that has happened, is already like the water flown under the bridge. Don't waste time trying to find someone to blame or moan about your bad luck. The sooner you can accept the reality, the earlier you would find a effective solution to the problem.
|
Loosen Up: Release tension (whether physical or mental) that might have
accumulated when you first heard the bad news.
Letting go of the tension improves the brain's capacity to take in oxygen and process more information.
Move to act: Once you are centred and thinking properly, you can act efficiently to defuse the crisis.
For senior managers and officers on board, simple techniques of YOGA's Pranayama or deep breathing can work wonders to release tension from your body.
Your calm stature would also inspire your juniors or co-workers and strengthen their faith in your ability to handle problems when the things get really sticky.
