Tentative course schedule for the month of Jan 2008. May subject to changes. Please contact SIMS Mumbai for confirmation.

The year 2007 kept all in ESM and SIMS gainfully occupied and literally bound to an ever-active and exciting schedule- at least for most part of the year! We closed the last chapter/month of the year equally in style and finesse with achievements and stretching our milestone to another limit for the forthcoming year 2008.

In general, there has been an unprecedented growth in the shipping world and also a high degree of crisis over the crew and manning as a spill off of that growth. Unfortunately not very many in the industry decided to tackle the bull in the horn and took steps for counter measures.

In ESM, we are proud to say- we did go a long way in to contribute towards the future growth of the crewing industry through our exceptional training facilities in Mumbai and Lonavala. As this has been applauded worldwide, we want to stress that in reality it is just a drop in the ocean of training needs across the world. We do hope, before it’s too late, more like minded agencies will join us in our endeavour of such serious maritime training required in the industry.

This has amply underlined the social responsibilities that we deliver in every sphere of our business and dealings to the outside world. We are happy to emphasize that this one message which will continue to guide us for the coming year 2008 as well as in the future.

Water

Here are some facts about water and its benefits to our health.
  • 60% of the world population are chronically dehydrated
  • In 40% of the world population, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger
  • Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism by 3%
  • One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington research programme.
  • Lack of water is the number one trigger for daytime fatigue.
  • Preliminary research indicates that 8 – 10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
  • A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic mathematics, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
  • Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
Are you drinking enough water?

If your body is not sufficiently hydrated, the cells will draw water from your bloodstream, which will make your heart work harder. At the same time, the kidneys cannot purify blood effectively. When this happens, some of the kidney’s workload is passed on to the liver and other organs, which may cause them to be severely stressed. Additionally, you may develop a number of minor health conditions such as constipation, dry and itchy skin, acne, nosebleeds, urinary tract infection, coughs, sneezing, sinus pressure and headaches.

So how much water is enough for you? The minimum amount of water you need depends on your body weight. A more accurate calculation is to drink an ounce of water for every two pounds of body weight.

Here is the calculation for your minimum water need:

{ [ (Your Body Weight in Kg) x 2.2] / 2 / 15} x 450 = Amount of Water required in ml.
