Water Conservation Tips at Home
In the Toilet or Bathroom Area
Turn the shower off while soaping.
Take quick showers. Control the volume of water while showering
Use a tumbler while brushing your teeth.
Use a tumbler while shaving.
Use a half flush for flushing of liquid waste.
Install a low capacity flushing cistern which uses only 3.5 litres to 4.5 litres per flush.
Do not allow toilet cisterns to overflow.
Do not use the toilet's water closet suite as a trash basket.

  In the Kitchen Area
Wash dishes in a sink of water.
If you are using a dishwasher, wash with a full load.
Do not thaw frozen food under running water.
Reuse water from washing of vegetables for watering plants.
Washing dishes or vegetables in a filled sink uses about 12 litres of water. Washing them under a running tap for 5 minutes uses 60 litres of water. That is 5 times more water down the kitchen sink.

In the Laundry Area
Wash clothes in a wash-tub instead of under a running tap.
Wash your clothes every other day if you do not have a full load.
Wash your clothes with full load only.
Reuse the rinse water from your washing machine to mop floors.
Reuse the rinse water from your washing machine to flush toilets.

Other Areas
Wash your floors using a mop and bucket instead of a hose. Modern floor detergents now allow us to clean the floor more effectively with a bucket and mop.
Wash your car using a pail instead of a running hose.
Turn off taps when not in use.
Turn off taps tightly to stop drips. A fast dripping tap can waste up to 200 litres of water a day!
Check your pipes and water fittings regularly for leaks.
Water your plants with a watering can instead of a running hose.
Replace worn-out washers in dripping taps.
Read your water meter regularly to monitor your water consumption.
Repair leaks immediately.
Install constant flow regulators at your taps and fittings.
