Endorsement from MPA, Singapore

BG Tay also addressed the faculty and the cadets in the auditorium and expressed his appreciation for the “timely” establishment of SIMS, Lonavala to meet the worldwide shortage for seafarers:
“The extraordinary amount of investments in new ships has been unprecedented this time…Unfortunately, the issue of crewing these upcoming ships have not been adequately factored into the system resulting in a huge imbalance in the demand and supply of seafarers. Therefore, the investment in this sprawling and modern training facility is timely
…We are certainly impressed by what we saw and experienced today – a state-of-the-art campus, the dedicated lecturers and administrative staff, and of course, the quality students enrolled in this fine institution.

…The Singapore Government strongly supports the maritime sector and places much emphasis on growing this sector.
…As such, we are happy to partner
SIMS in training world-class seafaring

officers.
"
Wishing the institute continued success in training world-class seafaring officers, BG Tay and his team also left the following comment in the visitor’s book:
“This institute is not only modern and well-equipped but more importantly, it embodies the spirit and passion of its founder, a quality that will stand in good stead for all that pass through its glass walls.”
-BG (NS) Tay Lim Heng, Chief Executive, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore
"This visit has been an inspiring and enriching visit. It's a realization of a fantastic dream of Mr. & Mrs. Teeka towards creating a pool of trained seafarers. I wish the staff and management of the institute every success. May each of you realize your desired dream."
- Ms. Tay Beng Tee, Group Director, IMC Cluster
About the Endorsement
Needless to say, SIMS went   through a grueling  inspection and audit routine by MPA to evaluate the infrastructure as well as the course content, prior the official announcement of the endorsement.
A result of the recognition,  DNS graduates from SIMS will be eligible  for

MPA’s Deck Officer Class 3 Certificate of Competency (COC) examination which is equivalent to DG Shipping’s 2nd Mate’s COC. A pre-requisite for the cadets will be  to  successfully complete their 18 months sea time onboard as well as the distance learning programme and Training &
Record book from IGNOU.
Similarly, GME graduates from SIMS will be eligible for MPA’s Marine Engineering Officer (MEO) Class 5 COC examination which is the equivalent of DG Shipping’s MOT Class IV COC after completing at least 6 months of sea time on board.
