M.T.BRITISH OAK
Sailed out of Tsuneishi shipyard on 16th April and on her maiden voyage to
Jamnagar, India for loading. The vessel bunkered at Singapore on her way and would be
sailing to the United States for her first discharging.
After Saddam Hussein, the news that hogged the maximum newsprint all over the world
is now SARS ( Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). As a ship manager, we have taken all precautionary measures for our vessels calling ports
in any SARS affected countries like China and Hong Kong. Meanwhile, staff in ESM, Singapore is subjected to routine temperature check twice a day just to
ensure that all is in order on the health front in the office.

Similarly, all necessary precautions were taken while boarding any vessel calling
Singapore in recent days so that no SARS virus in carried on board by any of us. We have the picture of our Technical staff who boarded MT British Oak during her transit Singapore.
Security
Initiative
Keeping in view the growing marine security concern in the world, IMO
has adopted some new security measures and procedures with an aim to establish
an international marine security framework called the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS).
This is to protect all ships, personnel, cargo and ports as well. The regulations are to be enforced from July,2004.
Capt. M. M. Basrai has been appointed as Company Security Officer. The new area of
security will be handled by our Quality, Insurance and HSE department . In
fact, the department is currently involved in conducting the Shipboard Security
Assessment with all managed ships' senior officers. After the extensive
assessments, a Ship Security Plan will be developed for each ship to stipulate
the methods and procedures for the three security levels indicated.
Safety Moment -
Health, Safety and Environment Protection have been paramount in our agenda and all proactive
measures have been undertaken to enhance the Performance of our managed vessels in these area. Inculcating safe
behavior in our officers and crew is one such
measure taken very seriously by our Quality department.
Accordingly, we have instituted "Safety Moment" on a weekly basis which goes as the email message tagline sent
to all ships. Each week's "Safety Moment" covers a real incident, which
had occurred in our collective experience with lessons learnt in brief.
The aim is to trigger free flow of information as a catalyst to set the shipboard personnel thinking about the incident, discuss amongst themselves and
learn from others' mistakes to improve safety by encouraging safe behaviours.Additionally, we strongly believe that transparency is the key to good and
productive management.
