The second day of the seminar was fully addressed by Capt H.S.Gill, Regional Operations Superintendent (Eastern Hemisphere) of BP Shipping, which took all through a lot of practical and day-to-day operational, commercial, and safety aspects related to BP Shipping. The issue of tendering the NOR (Notice Of Readiness), keeping track of weather during anchorages so that any delays in berthing etc., can be substantiated with proof, avoidance of vessels direct correspondence with brokers, bunker supplies and discrepancies and injuries in the first quarter of 2005. The whole session, which was punctuated by short tea breaks and lunch, was an interactive one, with the floating staff enjoying the feel of getting their queries answered directly by the best qualified to do so! A short brief into the vetting process and vessel's approach was enlightening.

The participants were from SIMS, ESM Mumbai, ESM/BP floating staff, and ESM Singapore.

The final day was concluded by a vote of thanks by Capt Samir Kumar, followed by a token of appreciation to Capt Gill. A feedback was collected from all the attendees followed by souvenirs for all.

The seminar moved to Chandigarh on 19th April which was exclusively addressed by Capt. Gill who kept the attendees enthralled with all very up to date and practical information and instructions on the BP operational aspects. The interest created thereby made the interactive sessions far overshoot the stipulated time though to great satisfaction of all who participated the seminar.

Both the seminars in Mumbai and Chandigarh ended with a lively get together of all family members of ESM and SIMS over dinner.

(A report from Technical Superintendent K.S.Patnaik who participated in the seminar.)
