-Excerpt of Speech by RADM (NS) Lui Tuck Yew, Chief Executive, MPA Singapore.
Mr.
Balaji Singh Teeka, Mrs. Singh, distinguished guests, ladies and
gentlemen. It is really a great pleasure and privilege for me to be
with you here this morning to inaugurate Executive Ship Management's
new office premises in Govandi. I think I can speak on behalf of all
our guests here, Mr. Teeka, that we are proud to be associated with
the growth and success of your company.
But what has
impressed me most, actually talking to Mr. Teeka, is not just the rate
of growth but it is planned growth. He does not rush into just
grabbing as many ships as he can manage. In fact, the focus is on
quality and that is an area I'm most impressed with. Because as a
young company, the most dangerous thing that can happen is really to
grow beyond the capabilities of the company to deliver on its promises
to clients and listening to him and his business plans, I take my hat
off to you for your pledge to maintain service quality; for expanding
still at such an impressive rate.

Shipping is about a focus on people. People form the
lenses through which the entire organization is viewed. Quality people
make all the difference. I liken the Master of a ship to being the
Chief Executive or the Managing Director of a company. He or she has
assets worth several hundreds of millions of dollars under his charge,
for that today, is the cost of a ship and its cargo. Pick the right
man and he or she will enhance the reputation of your company. You
pick the wrong person, you he will provide endless amount of trouble
to your operations. Pick the right people, when you go to port, when
they make decisions, when they train their people, they are going to
make sure that they run a tight ship; they are going to produce and
provide good operations and I think the focus of Executive Ship
Management is absolutely correct – the focus on quality, focus on
people.

ESM's presence in
Mumbai is testimony to what India has to offer - talented people who
are ready to be trained, who take their profession seriously, who are
able to give good value, good quality and I’m pleased that ESM has
decided to establish its training premises here with many other
offices distributed throughout India to be able to tap that rich
source of talent that India has to offer.
|

Today, the
inauguration of this new office represents yet another milestone in
ESM’s history. Looking around, taking a tour of the place, I can say
that it is well equipped, it is newly renovated and I understand that
this office will undertake the important task of management control of
all the Indian operations. The former space that this office vacated
from will now offer more floor space for the company’s expanding
training institute, Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies. As a part
of the institute’s expansion, I gather that new facilities like
bridge and ship manoeuvring simulator are being built and I look
forward to being briefed on these plans and to seeing it come to
fruition.

Mr. Teeka, you have
prepared well for the future. ESM is in good hands under strong
leadership and going through an exciting phase. Third party ship
managers are becoming a more popular choice for even more shipping
companies especially ship managers who offer value. ESM’s growing
fleet size is a strong testimony to the way that the company is
heading. So I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate ESM
and all who work with her and all her partners for supporting and
contributing to its achievements. In fact, the Maritime and Port
Authority counts itself as one of the partners of ESM.

We have recently just
awarded Executive Ship Management the prestigious Approved Shipping
Logistics Status in Singapore last month. The award is given in
recognition for its headquarters’ role and its commitments to grow
its business in Singapore. ESM became the pioneer batch of 8 shipping
companies in management, in agency and logistics that were given this
award. I congratulate you once again. The MPA is proud to celebrate
another momentous occasion in the history of your company.
Mr. Teeka, the
management team and all the staff of Executive Ship Management, on
behalf of all the guests here, let me extend my heartfelt
congratulations on your outstanding effort in bringing the company to
where it is today. I wish all of you continued success in the years
ahead.

-Excerpts from the address by Mr. B.S.Teeka,
Managing Director ESM PTE LTD.
Good evening ladies and gentlemen
-
This
is the culmination and happy ending of our two days of events to
celebrate our new expansion of the ESM, Mumbai office and the new
chapter for our training institute SIMS at Lonavala.
-
This
is one of the most challenging, exciting and also satisfying time
for Executive ship management. We have rightfully made our own
space in the international shipping arena having recognised as a
world class ship management service provider. Our uncompromising
standards and quality commitments have earned us our close
partnership with the industry leaders and I personally offer my
sincere appreciation to representatives of some of them gracing
today's celebration.
-
I
would like to particularly thank RADM Mr.Lui Tuck Yew, Chief
Executive of Maritime Authority of Singapore for gracing this
occasion and also bring in two other important officials of MPA to
take part in this celebration. Thank you very much sir.
-
We
are ever indebted to Singapore government for allowing us to use
our own initiative and imagination to create this entirely
unorthodox, new era ship management service. We have benefited
tremendously by an environment of meritocracy and top class
infrastructure without which it would have been an uphill task for
an enterprise like ours. The icing on the cake is however, the
recent recognition of MPA conferring on us the INTERNATIONAL
MARITIME AWARDS 2004 under their Approved International Shipping
(AIS) Enterprise program.
|
-
Mutual
trust and respect is the basis of our relationship with all our
partners in the business. The trust has been built on the promises
kept and commitments accomplished by us at every stage of our
relationship.
-
Lonavala
campus for the Samundra Institute of Maritime Institute is part of
our commitment to our clients and to ourselves to ensure that the
quality that we have been associated with continues in future too.

-
With
an estimated cost of over eight million US dollar, this project is
an exclusive contribution of Executive Ship management towards the
training of Indian seafarers who are the backbone of our
management service. Our focus will be to provide full-scale
training to our crew right from his cadetship to his senior-most
level. There would be close monitoring and supervision at every
stage of training at the institute and on board so that we have a
thorough bred seafarer on each position on every ship under our
management.
Thank you very much once again to all our guests for
your support and good wishes.
