WINNERS: PERSONAL INJURY ELIMINATION CAMPAIGN
We are pleased to announce the winners of the Personal Injury Elimination Campaign conducted for six weeks during the period of 15th June 05 to 31st July 05.

Three separate topics were chosen for each of the three fortnights of the campaign and all crew members were asked to contribute their individual views and ideas for each of these topics. Posters with pictures of injuries were posted during this period and were being changed every fortnight. This set the tone for the campaign.

We received an enthusiastic response from all crew - ratings and the officers alike, which indicated an increased level of safety awareness on board. It was indeed a tough call for our selectors to finally choose the winners. The entries were judged for their innovativeness and practical applicability onboard.

The winner for the 1st fortnight

DO REMEMBER: SAFETY FIRST & FOREMOST FOR ALL OF US ON BOARD AND ASHORE!

Visa for Indian national. The joke says, Indians need visa even to cross the road! Joke apart, recent months have been a consistent and continuous struggle to acquire visa for our crew members joining ships in various parts of the world. Every country has its distinct rules and regulations - some of which defy all norms of logic and reasoning as to why some get visa in two days and why some passports get stuck for weeks without a reply. Some even requires a clearance from the Home ministry of the respective country before the application is approved!

Added to these idiosyncratic rules are the terrorist threats all around us which have forced many countries to tighten their visa rules. The net result or the ultimate sufferers are some innocent public like our seafarers going for their call of duty on board. Our manning department is always caught in the crossfire- facing the indifference of the visa consulate on one hand and the wrath of the crew member (the one waiting for his reliever of course) on the other.

Our sincere request to the crew member, please bear with us and join us to pray that the situation will improve soon and we all would have more peaceful days and nights in the coming month of September.
