Daliya Upma is a wholesome and nutritious breakfast option that combines the goodness of broken wheat (daliya) with a medley of vegetables and aromatic spices. This dish is not only easy to prepare but also packed with essential nutrients, making it a perfect way to start your day.

Ingredients you'll need

  • 4 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp cumin / jeera
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 dried red chilli
  • 8 whole cashew / kaju (optional)
  • 1/2 onion finely chopped
  • 2 green chilli slit
  • 1 inch ginger chopped
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 2 tbsp carrot chopped
  • 1/4 potato chopped
  • 3 tbsp peas
  • 7-8 beans chopped
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup Daliya (broken wheat /bansi rava / samba rava)
  • 3 cup water

Instructions


  1. Firstly, in a large kadai, heat four teaspoons of oil and add one teaspoon of mustard, one teaspoon urad dal, half a teaspoon cumin, a few curry leaves, one dried red chilli and eight whole cashews (optional). Sauté it over medium heat.

  2. Now add half of an onion which has been finely chopped, two sliced green chillis and one inch of a ginger chopped. Sauté well.

  3. Further add one tomato, two tablespoons of chopped carrot, one quarter of a chopped potato, three tablespoons of peas and seven to eight pieces of chopped beans. Then, add a quarter of a teaspoon of turmeric and three-quarter teaspoon of salt. Cover and cook for five minutes.

  4. Now add one cup of broken wheat and roast on low heat for five minutes.

  5. Pour in three cups of boiling water.

  6. Raise the heat to high then cover and cook for two minutes.

  7. Finally, serve mixed vegetable daliya upma hot with kara chutney.
